The Bookeen Diva HD is the first new e-reader from the French manufacturer since the “Saga” model and is aimed primarily at a French-speaking audience. The device features a 6-inch E Ink Carta HD display with a resolution of 1448 × 1072 pixels (300 ppi). Illumination is provided by a front light with adjustable color temperature. In addition to touch controls, the Diva HD also has physical page-turn buttons and a gyroscope, allowing the controls to be adjusted for left- and right-handed users alike.
The housing is made entirely of white plastic and follows a rounded, minimalist design. Weighing under 240 g and measuring 134 × 155 × 15 mm, the e-reader is compact. It’s powered by a 1 GHz single-core NXP chip, supported by 512 MB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. The battery has a capacity of 1900 mAh and charges via Micro-USB. USB-C is not supported.
Open system with store integration
The Linux-based operating system is functional and responsive. The home screen shows your current reads, personal library, and recommendations from the integrated Bookeen store, which primarily offers French-language content. The user interface is also set to French by default, but can be switched to German, English, Italian, or Polish. In addition to the store integration, you can transfer your own eBooks in EPUB, PDF, TXT, FB2, or HTML format via USB or Adobe Digital Editions. The Bookeen Diva HD supports Adobe DRM.
The menus are straightforward and intuitive to use. In the settings you can configure Wi-Fi, lighting, language, time, fonts, and the standby image. A Dark Mode is available while reading, but it isn’t active system-wide.
Reading features with customization options
The library can be displayed as a grid or cover view. Books can be marked as read, deleted, or added to a reading list. While reading, pages can be turned using buttons, touch, or gestures. The reading mode menu provides access to the table of contents, search, font settings, and display options for the header and footer.
There are six preinstalled fonts to choose from, including OpenDyslexic. Font size, weight, line spacing, and margins can be adjusted individually.
