Boyue Likebook Mimas

Featuring E-Ink Carta Mobius and powerful hardware for comics, magazines, and large-format PDFs

At a Glance

The Boyue Likebook Mimas (internal designation: Likebook 103D) is hardly your typical e-reader—it actually belongs much more in the tablet segment. The device features a 10.3-inch display using E-Ink Carta Mobius technology.

This is the same flexible display technology already used in the Kobo Forma and the Sony Digital Paper series (DPT-CP1, DPT-RP1).

Promising Display and Interaction Technology

The plastic display substrate isn’t just lighter than the usual glass backing, but also much less prone to damage. With a display this large, those are two very welcome advantages. However, Boyue is still keeping quiet about some specifications, so there’s no official information about the weight. The device’s almost identical predecessor reportedly weighs in at 386 grams, with dimensions of 262 x 192 x 7.8 mm.

Thanks to a leak in a Chinese forum and various details on Twitter and Aliexpress, most of the key technical specs are already known. The display resolution is 1872×1404 pixels, which works out to a pixel density of 227 ppi. The Boyue Likebook Mimas is operated via a touchscreen with Wacom stylus support. You can use your fingers, or a Wacom stylus that recognizes 4096 different levels of pressure sensitivity.

The rest of the specs are just as impressive: The screen has front lighting—with your choice of cool white or warm white LEDs. Unlike most devices, you can’t blend the two, but you can switch between them and control their brightness.

Android 6.0 with Robust Hardware

Under the hood, the Boyue Likebook Mimas runs Android 6.0, ensuring that a wide range of current apps should run perfectly well. The system is open for app installations. Thanks to the 1.5 GHz octa-core CPU and 2 GB of RAM, you shouldn’t experience any performance issues.

Internal storage comes in at 16 GB, and you can expand it by up to 128 GB with a memory card (most likely MicroSD). For audio, there’s a 3.5 mm headphone jack and reportedly two built-in speakers, as well as a microphone. The battery is generously sized at 4,700 mAh, and USB-C, WiFi, and Bluetooth round out a well-equipped feature set.

Also worth mentioning are the four hardware buttons below the display—a much appreciated feature, especially on an Android E-Ink device. The stylus can be stored in a loop on the side.
