TrekStor Pyrus Mini

TrekStor Pyrus Mini

TrekStor aims to stand out from the crowd with its smartphone-sized eReader.

At a Glance

A few days ago, I reported that TrekStor would be unveiling the world’s smallest eBook reader at the Frankfurt Book Fair: the Pyrus Mini. Now, TrekStor has pulled back the curtain a bit early with a press release, sharing more details about their new reading device.

The TrekStor Pyrus Mini features a 4.3-inch Digital Ink display with a resolution of 800×600 pixels. Thanks to the small screen size, the pixel density is a remarkable 230 dpi, resulting in especially crisp text. Weighing in at just 111 grams, the Pyrus Mini is an absolute featherweight. For comparison: the lightest 6-inch eBook reader, the Sony PRS-T2, weighs 164 grams, and the newest 5-inch Kobo Mini tips the scales at 134 grams.

TrekStor has also now revealed the device’s dimensions: the Pyrus Mini measures 128.5 x 85 x 9.0 mm, making it quite possibly the smallest dedicated eBook reader out there (for reference, the Kobo Mini with its 5-inch display measures 133.1 x 101.6 x 10.3 mm). There’s 2GB of internal storage, which can be expanded by up to 32GB via microSD card. The device will be available starting in November at the low entry price of just €49.99—offered in black, blue, and pink/red.

If TrekStor uses the same display technology as in the larger Pyrus, the Pyrus Mini should also boast a high-contrast screen. In our soon-to-be-published review, the Digital Ink display of the Weltbild eBook Reader 4Ink (or TrekStor Pyrus) proves to be on par with the standard eInk Pearl devices in terms of contrast and black levels. As soon as the Pyrus Mini becomes available, we’ll be sure to put it through its paces.
