E Ink Holdings to Unveil Surprises at First CES 2014 Appearance: What to Expect
In recent months, E-Ink Holdings has introduced some new screen technologies for eBook readers with E-Ink Carta, Mobius, and Fina. However, except for the Carta technology, there haven’t been any major revolutions for the average consumer. The Aurora and Spectra displays have not yet even hit the market.
The company has announced that for the first time, it will be attending the CES electronics trade show in Las Vegas next January. The event will take place from January 7 to 10, 2014.
Why is this noteworthy? Alongside simply attending, E-Ink Holdings is teasing more: “We even have some surprises in store for you – but silence is golden, so you’ll have to wait and see for yourselves,” as noted on their Facebook page.
New Technology or Application Demonstrations?
There’s excitement about what these surprises might be. With E-Ink Carta, the company introduced a remarkable display technology in late summer, which is currently only available in one device: the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 2. Otherwise, there have been no real innovations in recent years that have hit the consumer market in large numbers. The color E-Ink technologies Triton 1 and 2 haven’t progressed for some time either, which is why only PocketBook has dared to produce a corresponding eBook reader for the masses with the Color Lux.
But it’s not just E-Ink Holdings that is stumbling over color ePaper technology. Other companies have also failed to satisfactorily complete these developments so far. Whether the ePaper specialist has succeeded this time, we’ll soon find out.
However, it is also quite possible that no new technology will be introduced, but rather the CES 2014 will be used to present new application areas for the screens. This has been done in the past as well. We’ll know more soon – we’ll keep you updated.
