Kobo Writing Life Boosts Fall Royalties to 80% for Authors
Kobo is serious about its self-publishing program, Kobo Writing Life. This was already quite clear, as other similar platforms are enjoying great success, bringing good money to both authors and operators without the need to involve publishers in the business.
As Kobo now reveals, from September 1st to November 30th this fall, they will raise the royalties to up to 80 percent. That’s 10 percent more than what is usually paid out for eBooks priced between 1.99 and 12.99 euros. Despite the platform’s recent launch, Kobo’s biggest advantage lies in the international reach and presence of Kobo Writing Life. According to their statement, since the opening, eBooks from 73 countries in 10 languages have been submitted for self-publication.
“Our team worked hard to ensure Kobo Writing Life is an intuitive solution focused on authors, delivering real value to the self-publishing market. We are very pleased with the outcome,” commented Michael Tamblyn, Executive Vice President of Content & Merchandising at Kobo, on the development of the young platform. “From rewarding author royalties to a comprehensive reporting dashboard, we’ve received enthusiastic feedback from authors about how easy the platform is to use. After the many positive reactions from authors, we are excited to offer this additional promotional campaign in the fall.”
Kobo Writing Life could establish itself alongside Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing as one of the major platforms, especially in the international arena. The operation is indeed as easy as promised, and the pricing is more transparent than Amazon’s. Thanks to massive worldwide expansion over recent months, Kobo already has a foothold in emerging eBook markets, allowing it to leverage the momentum of rapidly accelerating growth in those regions.
