Readmill Launches: Transforming Digital Social Reading with Unique Features

Estimated reading time: 1:16 min.

Particularly, Kobo is striving to tap into the emerging market for digital social reading with its products. Recently, the Canadian eBook reader manufacturer launched the Kobo Pulse service for this purpose, which allows readers to write comments on a book and discuss with others. Additionally, you can see how many people are currently reading a book, how many liked or disliked it, and so on. So far, this service is available only on the Kobo Vox and the Kobo App, not on the Kobo Touch. However, it is expected to be available there soon.

But it’s not just Kobo venturing into this field. A few days ago, the service Readmill from a five-member team in Berlin went online, targeting a similar market segment. Once you download the free app for iPad or iPhone, you can share passages directly with friends. Unlike the usual Facebook sharing, Readmill operates on its own platform with a unique user profile.

This profile displays the books read collectively – including reading progress and shared comments. Like on Facebook or Google+, you can follow other people’s reading habits. This is, of course, interesting if you want to discover new books and have found or know someone with a similar taste in books.

Readmill also offers the possibility to share Kindle highlights with others. To do this, you must manually synchronize the relevant books via the Amazon website with a click.
