Sony PRS-T1 Unavailable on Austrian and Swiss Websites Due to Supply Issues
The PRS-T1 machinery doesn’t seem to be running smoothly yet. A few days ago, the availability of the new Sony Reader hit a snag, although since then it has been consistently available, with partners such as libri.de always having the eBook Reader in stock.
However, according to Sony.at and Sony.ch, the Reader WiFi is not on offer in Austria and Switzerland at all. Instead of the product page for the new eBook Reader, the Sony PRS-650 and PRS-350 are being promoted again. Apparently, someone made a mistake while updating the homepage.
The supply issues with the PRS-T1 appear to be linked to the flood disaster in Thailand. Buchmarkt has learned that some production facilities of our suppliers were unfortunately affected by the floods in Thailand, which has resulted in some short-term delivery constraints for Sony’s Reader. However, deliveries to the book trade will resume at the beginning of December 2011, and we are making every effort to quickly fulfill the orders we have already received,” commented Henrik Schäfer, Product Group Manager Networked Products, on the situation.
Thus, the Christmas season is proving far from smooth for eBook Reader providers. KNV had to recall the first shipment of the iriver Story HD WiFi due to software problems, MVB is unable to supply the TrekStor Liro Color in sufficient quantities, and Kobo struggled for weeks with delivery delays for the Kobo Touch.
