Firmware Update for Sony PRS-T1 Improves eBook Download Capability – Version 1.0.02.10280

Estimated reading time: 0:55 min.

It looks like Sony isn’t leaving us out in the rain: the first firmware update for the Sony PRS-T1 has just been released. The disappointment sets in, however, when you look at the official change log of the new version, as it doesn’t include any bug fixes for the touchscreen or improvements to software stability.

The change log only includes: “The update enables the download of certain eBook files.”

Not particularly enlightening. But no worries. It’s not uncommon for companies to inadequately document their public change logs. So it’s entirely possible that Sony has resolved the touchscreen issues. Let’s wait and see what the users have to say.

The installation of the update is very simple. You connect the reader to the PC and start the Sony Reader software. Under the menu item “?” you select “Check for Updates…”. The software finds the update version 1.0.02.10280, which you can then download. From there, almost everything happens automatically and you only need to confirm the update on the PC a few times. Leave the reader connected until the installation window on the PC shows the success message.
